Mercy Education

Three students photoMercy is proud to welcome Santa Maria and Mercedes Colleges into our midst.

This year saw the dawn of a new era for Mercy. Following the signing of a four-year agreement between the Sisters of Mercy and the Board of Mercy, Santa Maria and Mercedes Colleges were welcomed under the management of Mercy. Mercy has accepted full management responsibilities for both colleges for the term of the agreement. This management position will be reviewed in the final year of the agreement to determine the future management structure of the colleges.

Both Santa Maria and Mercedes Colleges have strong traditions and ethos’ that they live and work by and Mercy has made a commitment to maintain and grow the Mercy Ethos at the Colleges.

Mercedes College traces its origins back to 1846, the early years of the Swan River Colony, when a community of six Sisters of Mercy arrived from Ireland and founded the school. Santa Maria College, located in Attadale, was founded some years later, in 1938, by the Sisters of Mercy.

Both colleges enjoy wonderful reputations as two of the leading colleges for education of girls in Western Australia. It is a great privilege that we assist in the life and development of Mercedes
and Santa Maria Colleges.
